How to write a blog.     02/27/2013
This is the very first blog post for our new website. So, who am I to tell you how to write one? Exactly.

That’s why I’m going to point you to one that will be much more instructive. It will make you laugh, and most surely make you cry, along the way. The writer is Mike Hughes. If you don’t know who Mike Hughes is, then you’ve probably stumbled onto our pages by mistake. Even if that’s the case, I urge you to go to Mike’s blog anyway. It’s that good.

Spoiler alert: Mike has cancer and was given a very short time to live just a few weeks ago.

I got into advertising in 1980. I discovered Mike and his work for The Martin Agency’s clients when I came across an Art Directors award annual on the back shelves of a small agency in Cleveland. (For those of you who only know the Brandcenter and the like, those annuals were our education.)

The ads Mike wrote not only inspired me, they also gave me direction. Many others helped me along the way, but Mike, unknowingly and from three states away, gave me the push.

This link will take you to the first entry from Mike’s blog that I read. Start there. A little way in, pay particular attention to the thread about his college reading material. It will warm and break your heart at the same time. Reading Mike’s words makes me come away with a new definition for grace. And it is the best example I’ve ever seen about how to write a blog.    Unfinishedthinking.com
